WebRTC Diagnostic Tool – Camera, Microphone & ICE Network Tester
Live Hardware & Network Health Diagnostics
Sniff camera frames, compute microphone audio dBFS volume, and discover WebRTC ICE candidates via Google STUN.

Real-Time Audio VU Meter
Assessed via STUN reflexive candidate binding. Open NAT / Full Cone allows direct P2P connections; Symmetric NAT may require TURN relay.
What is WebRTC and Why Run Diagnostics?
WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) enables peer-to-peer audio, video, and data streaming between web browsers without external plugins or third-party client software. It powers modern video conferencing platforms (Google Meet, Zoom Web, Microsoft Teams, Discord), live remote interviewing, and cloud gaming.
Key Metrics Tested
- Frame Rate (Live FPS): Measures the actual hardware capture cadence of your webcam using high-resolution browser timestamps. Confirms whether your camera is hitting its advertised 30fps or 60fps refresh rate under current lighting conditions.
- Microphone Decibels (dBFS VU Meter): Analyzes acoustic gain via the Web Audio API. Fast RMS sampling shows real-time loudness levels so you can detect clipping distortion (red zone above -3 dB) or an under-amplified mic before entering an important meeting.
- ICE Candidates & STUN Connectivity: Evaluates Interactive Connectivity Establishment (RFC 8445). Detects host addresses (local network interfaces) and server reflexive candidates (public IPs resolved via Google's STUN servers) to gauge NAT traversal feasibility.
- Round-Trip Latency (RTT): Tests network responsiveness to STUN endpoints to verify whether your router, firewall, or ISP allows low-jitter UDP packet delivery.
Troubleshooting Video & Microphone Issues
If the test displays permission errors or black screen preview:
- Ensure your browser URL bar has camera and microphone permissions allowed (look for the lock or tune icon).
- Verify that no other application (such as desktop Zoom, OBS Studio, or Teams) has an exclusive hardware lock on your webcam.
- If candidates fail to gather, your network may be behind an enterprise firewall blocking outbound UDP port 19302.
Frequently asked questions
Is any video or audio transmitted to your servers?
No! All media streams, Web Audio API frequency analysis, and peer connection gathering run 100% locally inside your browser. No video frames, audio recordings, or IP logs are ever sent to our servers.
Why does my webcam show 15 FPS instead of 60 FPS?
Most webcams automatically lower their frame rate in low-light environments to increase sensor exposure time and reduce image noise. Adding front-facing lighting to your workspace typically restores full 30fps or 60fps performance.
What is the difference between STUN and TURN?
STUN (Session Traversal Utilities for NAT) discovers your public IP address and port so peers can connect directly. When aggressive enterprise firewalls or Symmetric NATs block direct connections, TURN (Traversal Using Relays around NAT) relays all encrypted media through a dedicated fallback server.
Can I test virtual webcams like OBS Virtual Camera?
Yes! Any webcam recognized by your operating system, including OBS Virtual Camera, Camo, or Elgato Cam Link, can be selected and benchmarked.
